Today

Have you ever sat and listened to a child pray?

From hearing a few, they usually start prayers like, “Thank you God for my day.…”

I learn a lot from sitting and listening to them as they talk about today, what they pray for that day.

I hope that we would have the same kind of open prayers with God. To thank Him for this day, not focus and worry for the future but the present day that God has given us.

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

I hope that before we start rushing off to accomplish and do what we need to do that day, we would first come before the One who holds our life in His hand.

In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. – Job 2:10

I pray that we would seek and come before His presence before everything else that seeks our attention.

In Psalm 84:10, the psalmists beautifully describe being in the presence of the Lord for one day is better than a thousand elsewhere.

For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness – Psalm 84:10

Prayer: God, thank you for this day. Every day that you have put breath in my lungs, I know that you have a purpose for me.  You hold my life in your hands. I pray to walk in obedience and faithfulness for what you have in store today. I choose not to worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry about itself (Matthew 6:34). I pray to draw closer to you today and grow in my relationship with you.
