Borrowed Time

“What have you done with the time I’ve given you?”

When I come face to face with God, I wonder how I will answer this question.

Will I say, I spent some of my time on social media picking the best memories to highlight on my page?

Would I tell Him that I spent some of my time spent in fear instead of doing all that He had planned for me?

There are so many things I can say, but there is only one true response I would want to give.

I would want to say, “I spent my time trying to be the best reflection of You.
I loved others like you taught me to, I developed the relationships that you brought into my life, I went and served those you told me to serve, and I used the gifts you gave me.”

How amazing to give such a response?

There is a story that Jesus tells us about a master who leaves and while he is gone, his servants spend their time partying and wasting the time they had.

They think that he will be gone for a long time, so they don’t consider using their time to do what he wants them to. When he comes back unexpectedly, the servants are surprised, and the master is furious. (Luke 12:42-45)

Sometimes we think the time we have is unlimited and we may waste a day here or a day there.

However, God wants us to use the time He gives us, first, to know Him and to reflect Him.

He calls us to be diligent and fruitful in our time.

As we choose to use the time we are given, we please God and live a life that he’s called us to live.

So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God- Colossians 1:10
